If Gilbert Arenas is angling for a trade away from the Wizards, he is going about it the wrong way.
GMs for other teams want to see two things: Results and good health. He likely needs to play an entire, injury- and drama-free season for anyone to be interested in him. He also needs to shut his mouth.
Vague pronouncements about how he will leave the Wiz after his “mentoring” of John Wall is complete is not what you are looking for if you are Danny Ainge or Daryl Morley, looking to shrewdly add to your playoff teams.
The Wizards surely want to move Arenas as soon as they can, but they won’t be able to until there is some demand for Arenas and his bloated contract. There will be no such demand if Arenas’s mouth keeps getting a higher-profile than his play.
It is in everyone’s best interest, including Gilbert’s, for him and John Wall to have a strong, complementing relationship, both on the court and off. But Gil, please, for your sake specifically, we don’t need to hear every little detail. Anyone that would think of trading for you winced as soon as they saw you trying to predict the future yesterday.
Adidas Gil Zero, meet mouth. Please.
