The worst Maryland football preview ever produced

Maryland faces Navy for the first time since 2005 at 4 p.m. on Monday; No.3 Boise State takes on No. 10 Virginia Tech a few hours earlier later.

Maryland-Navy will be at M&T Bank Stadium, Boise State-Va. Tech at FedEx Field. Just a few miles apart, on one of the busiest travel weekends of the year, two important college football games. Sidebar: It’s in everyone’s best interest not to drive anywhere that day. If you do, bring text messaging devices.

But still, this is exciting right? A top 10 match-up in Landover, and the Terps back in an NFL stadium, the same place they handled the Middies in breathtaking fashion five years ago.

But when I said two important football games, I really meant one. Maryland has been so forgettable recently, posting a worst-ever 2-10 record last year, there is a negligible possibility of a winning season. For the first time in almost 10 years, Redskins fans have more hope of a winning season than Maryland.

Schedule please (Disclaimer: All predictions based on preconceived notions of how good every team is. I don’t follow NC State’s offseason moves.). Winnable games highlighted.

Date     Opponent / Event     Location     Time / Result
09/06/10     vs. Navy TV     Baltimore, Md.     4:00 p.m. ET
09/11/10     vs. Morgan State TV     College Park, Md.     6:00 p.m. ET
09/18/10     at West Virginia TV     Morgantown, W.Va.     12:00 p.m. ET
09/25/10     vs. Florida International     College Park, Md.     TBA
10/02/10     vs. Duke     College Park, Md.     TBA
10/16/10     at Clemson     Clemson, S.C.     TBA
10/23/10     at Boston College     Chestnut Hill, Mass.     TBA
10/30/10     vs. Wake Forest (Homecoming)     College Park, Md.     TBA
11/06/10     at Miami     Miami, Fla.     TBA
11/13/10     at Virginia     Charlottesville, Va.     TBA
11/20/10     vs. Florida State     College Park, Md.     TBA
11/27/10     vs. North Carolina State     College Park, Md.     TBA

Those are games we COULD win, not ones we SHOULD win. Big difference. Meanwhile, even the biggest pessimists are jocking the ‘Skins to the tune of 6-10, which is certainly better than most Maryland projections.

Enjoy the big game in Landover, but it would be a mistake to  schedule what should be a beautiful day around Maryland-Navy is you are a Terps fan. If the team is somehow good this year, let them surprise you. Don’t expect ANYTHING other than coaching drama as Fridge fights for his job.
